Inat Kuća

Sarajevo · The House of Spite

Inat Kuća

When Austro-Hungarian authorities wanted the site for City Hall, the owner refused to sell until his house was carried brick by brick across the Miljacka — and a bag of gold coins was paid. He watched the move from the bridge, smoking his pipe. A national restaurant since, its terrace now looks straight across the river at the very Vijećnica it once blocked; bosanski lonac, begova čorba, and the taste of pure obstinacy.

Best for

One long, unhurried dinner built around what came in that day.

Not for

À la carte cravings, large groups, or a quick bite between sights.
